It's been far too long since my last trip, so I'm a little rusty at this gig. Preparing to head to Cambodia in the next few weeks with my good friends Cyndi and Bruce, my favorite traveling companions. I think I'm excited most of all about the food. From what I have been told, Cambodians will eat pretty much anything. If it tastes good, therefore it's good to eat, whatever it is. If it doesn't taste good, it isn't good to eat. That's pretty much the only point of judgment, and I can't wait to eat some decent yet apparently somewhat experimental street food again.
Then of course there are the people and the ruins and the animals and the bugs and the jungles. I'm ready for all of it. I'm ready to feel like half my foot is rotting off again because I couldn't keep my socks dry enough the last time I was in Vietnam. I'm ready to see whether I bounce my head off a school-bus roof or tumble backwards down a flight of concrete steps. Hopefully no land mines. Most of all, I'm ready to stumble down some back alley or some jungle track to end up hanging out with a family that can't really understand me, and I can't really understand them, but they'll invite me into their house and feed me their best food and drink for no reason other than that it appears that I am lost.
